Children at One World Montessori Nursery follow the National Curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Effective practice within the Early Years Foundation Stage is built on four guiding themes:

1.       A Unique Child - building on what children already know and can do, and ensuring that all children are included and have access to the whole curriculum.

2.       Positive Relationships - encouraging the development of independence from the base of a secure relationship with a key person, and working in partnership with parents, welcoming and valuing their contributions.

3.       Enabling Environments - providing a rich and stimulating environment to support and extend children’s learning and development.

4.       Learning and Development - offering a structure for learning that has a range of starting points, content that matches the needs of young children and activity that provides opportunities for learning both indoors and outdoors.

The curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage is planned under seven areas of learning and development.  There are three prime areas (Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development), crucial for igniting children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive, and four specific areas (Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design), through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. 

The curriculum is enriched by the use of specialist Montessori materials to support children’s exploration and understanding.
